| Exquisite Designs was founded by John and Debbie Childs on May 1, 1990, in Aptos, California. Beginning in a small, one-car garage, John and Debbie started creating uniquely crafted furniture originating from their own designs. They were determined to produce fine furniture and furniture-quality cabinetry while following one simple principle: "No Compromise". Guided by this fundamental commitment, John and Debbie were able to stretch beyond the limitations set by contemporary manufacturing methods, returning to the traditional values of quality and design in creating each piece of furniture.
Sparing no expense in the cost of materials or labor, Exquisite Designs produces quality furniture and craftsmanship that few people ever experience. Exquisite Designs began creating one-of-a-kind furniture pieces and then, over time, began to receive commissions for larger scale built-in furniture projects.
Demand for their design expertise and workmanship increased year after year, which lead to furnishing complete estates with beautifully detailed built-in libraries, personal offices, theatres, game rooms and even kitchens that would have been unavailable through conventional furniture or cabinet companies. In 2004 Exquisite Designs stepped back from doing strictly custom work and created a line of truly exceptional limited edition furniture pieces, as well as carved architectural millwork elements. The creation of a carved millwork line (Crown Moldings, Corbels, and decorative panels) seemed a logical marriage since fine architectural finish work typically accompanies fine furniture.
Over the past 16 years, Exquisite Designs has increased in size and capacity, moving from a small garage shop to larger shops and now at their current location in Watsonville. The current location is approximately 12,000 square feet and includes a factory showroom and complete shop area containing all of the tools required to create extremely diverse work in terms of style and technique. Despite the large showroom and shop area, Exquisite Designs remains small enough to maintain an intimate relationship between each client and the craftsman accomplishing their work. This relationship enables every facet of the design and creation process to be completely enjoyable and successful.
